Ten years ago we established the Top Achiever’s Club fondly known as TAC and it has become the pride and joy of Randfontein High School. Since its inception, we followed a flexible approach by adjusting and fine-tuning procedures. This way the TAC developed its own dynamic character and will certainly continue to do so. It is common knowledge that top achievers in life have a flexible approach to challenges and are in essence creative solution finders.
After the first year it became clear that standards had to be adjusted. As the Top Achiever’s Club evolved, the bar was raised and the envelop was pushed. Learners had to contend to retain their positions. By 2006, learners had to achieve an average of 70% to qualify.
A sliding scale was introduced to compare achievements in different grades. A decreasing variable of 1% per grade was applied. For example, an average of 80% in Grade 12, is considered equal to 81% in Grade 11, 82% in Grade 10, 83% in Grade 9 and 84% in Grade 8.
In 2009, the Laureate blazer was introduced and awarded to learners who achieved an average of 85% and more at the end of an academic year. The laureate blazer is only awarded to learners in Grades 10 to 12.
The Top Achiever’s club has become that exclusive club that has contributed to the outstanding academic history we have seen over the years of TAC’s existence and which has contributed to the success of the school.
