Twelve years ago we established the Top Achiever’s Club, fondly known as TAC and it has become the pride and joy of Randfontein High School. However, we have every intention of raising the bar from Grade 8 to Grade 12 and expect every learner to follow suit. Despite all our achievements and wide variety of activities, our core function is academics or rather ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.
We in 2016 will not only raise the bar but also renew and refresh like our theme for the year, i#RHS Refresh, indicates. We have a very special Mathematics projects, a Bachelor Pass booster and THREE very exciting academic enrichment initiatives:
Top Achievers Club (TAC) – or now known as “The Legion of Eagles”, initiative, led by the Fish Eagle himself, Mr Jason Fisher. Our philosophy is to achieve, achieve, achieve and achieve well… He will be supported by the Grade Managers:
Grade 8 – Ms A Jankowitz
Grade 9 – Mrs A.J West
Grade 10 – Mrs Z Venter
Grade 11 – Mr R Senoamadi
Many of the original codes of good practice will remain in use, such as the sliding scale used to compare achievements in different grades and the Laureate Blazer.
When applying the sliding scale, a decreasing variable of 1% per grade is applied, for example, an average of 80% in Grade 12 is considered equal to 81% in Grade 11, 82% in Grade 10, 83% in Grade 9 and 84% in Grade 8.
Learners who maintain an average of 85% or more throughout the academic year receive a Laureate Blazer.
2. Our Counterstrike Team will look after positions 11 – 20 on our results list. Mrs Maharaj has Mrs Appelcryn and Mrs Smith joining her team.
The Counterstrike Team, so named after a well-known first-person-shooter game, which has become a cult phenomenon, will each receive a target and then eliminate the “enemy” – the enemy being the specific term’s top achievers. The aim would be to identify a subject per term where their academics results must “take out” those of a top achiever.
The basis of the programme however, is accountability. The learners will be looked after and receive all the support they need, but we will not work for them or be responsible for their academic wellbeing.A leaner will be provided with goals, failure to comply with any of the non-negotiables will result in the immediate removal of the learner should a weekly, daily or any other target not be met.
3. The new kid on the academic block, Wildcat Strike Action, will be led by Mrs M Henning, our Principal and Mrs J Henning our Academic Head. Learners who are currently not in the top 20 will be headhunted by them, to join their particular brand of motivation. Their aim is to - in true Wildcat fashion - lift the Top 20 learners from their current positions.
Wildcats attack unexpectedly and are capable of taking down animals much larger than themselves. They are unpredictable and they are often underestimated because of their size.
As with Counterstrike the basis of this programme is accountability. Every Wildcat must achieve a Bachelors Pass (50%+) in every subject to remain on the programme. They too will receive all the necessary support from Mrs M Henning, Mrs J Henning and various subject experts, but failure to comply with any of the directive will result in immediate removal from the programme.
